Amy Ryan and David Schwimmer will star in the New York premiere of Lisa D’Amour’s play Detroit. As previously reported, Anne Kauffman will direct the play for Playwrights Horizons. It will run August 24- October 7, with opening sometime in mid-September.

The play is set in the adjacent backyards of two recovering addicts and their anxious middle-class neighbors (the latter played by Ryan and Schwimmer). It was a 2011 Pulitzer Prize finalist, and D’Amour received a 2011 Steinberg Playwright Award winner for her body of work.

Ryan received Tony nominations for Uncle Vanya and A Streetcar Named Desire, and an Academy Award nomination, among numerous other honors, for Gone Baby Gone.

Schwimmer is best known for his portrayal of Ross on television’s Friends. As an actor, he has appeared on Broadway in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, and he also has several theater directing credits to his name.
