Alan Cumming to Star in London Revival of Bent

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming will star in a revival of Martin Sherman’s Bent at London’s Trafalgar Studios, September 22-January 13. The production will be directed by Daniel Kramer; no further information has yet been announced.

Bent tells the story of two homosexual men who fall in love amidst the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps. The play debuted in London in 1979, starring Ian McKellen; a Broadway production opened later that year, starring Richard Gere and David Dukes. Sherman and director Sean Mathias adapted the play for a 1997 film starring Clive Owen and Lothaire Bluteau, with McKellen and Mick Jagger in supporting roles.

Kramer received a London Evening Standard Award nomination for Outstanding Newcomer for his productions of Woyzeck and Hair at the Gate Theatre, where he is associate artistic director. He is also a creative associate at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Cumming won a Tony Award for his performance as the Emcee in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 1998 revival of Cabaret. He just finished a run in the Roundabout’s production of The Threepenny Opera, and he was also seen on Broadway in Design for Living.
