Afton C. Williamson, who has been understudying the role of Susan in the Broadway production of David Mamet’s Race, at the Barrymore Theatre, will officially take over the part from departing cast member Kerry Washington, beginning Tuesday, June 15.

The play, directed by Mamet, features three attorneys, two black and one white, who are offered a chance to defend a white man charged with a crime against a black woman. Williamson will join the previously announced Dennis Haysbert (beginning June 21) and continuing cast member Richard Thomas in the production, which is scheduled to run through August 21.

As previously reported, Washington and 2010 Tony nominee David Alan Grier will play their final performance in the show on June 13, while Emmy winner James Spader will depart the cast following the June 20 performance. A replacement for Spader has yet to be announced.

The production features sets by Santo Loquasto, lighting design by Brian Macdevitt, and costumes by Tom Broecker. As recently reported, the play recouped its investment.
