Actors’ Equity Appoints Flora Stamatiades as National Director, Organizing and Special Projects

At the Actors’ Equity council meeting on September 17, executive director Alan Eisenberg announced that Flora Stamatiades has been named national director of the Organizing and Special Projects division of the organization. Eisenberg stated to the council that the appointment "reflects Equity’s growing concerns about non-Equity national tours as well as competition in other areas.

"This new position will focus our energy on a variety of areas, including non-union national tours, the ‘urban’ circuit, Atlantic City and Las Vegas, cabaret, and business theater," continued Eisenberg. "Non-union competition is the most important challenge that Equity faces."

Stamatiades has been working with AEA since 1994. She holds a B.A. in theater and dance from Amherst College and an M.F.A. in theatre management from Yale, and is currently pursuing an M.S. in labor studies. "I look forward to the challenges of my new position," said Stamatiades. "I have always believed in the goals of the union movement and its particular benefits for the entertainment industry."
