Aaron Lazar and Chris Sarandon to Join The Light in the Piazza

Aaron Lazar will replace Matthew Morrison as Fabrizio Nacarelli and Chris Sarandon will take over for Mark Harelik as Fabrizio’s father next month in Lincoln Center Theatre’s production of The Light in the Piazza.

As previously reported, Morrison is leaving the show to join the cast of Richard Greenberg’s A Naked Girl on the Appian Way at the Roundabout’s American Airlines Theater. The show, which stars Jill Clayburgh and Richard Thomas, begins previews on September 13.
No specific reason was given for Harelik’s departure.

Lazar, who assumes the role of Fabrizio on September 2, has previously appeared on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera and Oklahoma!, and in the recent English National Opera production of On the Town.

Sarandon, who assumes the role of Signor Nacarelli on September 13, has appeared on Broadway in The Rothschilds, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Nick & Nora (alongside his wife Joanna Gleason). He earned an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor for Dog Day Afternoon.

The Light in the Piazza is scheduled to continue until January 1, 2006. It won six Tony Awards this year, including Best Actress (Victoria Clark), Best Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Set Design.
