65 NYC Theater Companies to Participate in Suzan-Lori Parks 365 Days/365 Plays National Festival

The Public Theater will spearhead the New York component of 365 Days/365 Plays, a national festival of short plays written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks.

In November 2002, the author committed herself to write a play a day for the next 365 days. The world premiere of this cycle will be performed in major cities and communities around the country from November 13, 2006 through November 12, 2007. More than 600 theaters in such cities as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Minneapolis are expected to participate.

The New York companies set to participate are: 3-d, Alec Duffy, Ars Nova, Atlantic Theater Company, Banana Bag and Bodice, Barrow Street Theatre, blessed unrest, Blue Box Productions, Boomerang Theatre Company, Clubbed Thumb, CollaborationTown, Desipina & Company, Dixon Place, Drama League Directors Project, duende arts, Engine 37 (Neal Freeman), Epic Theatre Center, Galapagos Art Space, Gansfeld Theatre Company, Genesius Theatre Group, Guerrilla Girls On Tour, HERE Arts Center, Hip-Hop Theater Festival, Hourglass Group, INTAR Theatre, LAByrinth Theater Company, LightBox, Lucid Theatre, Ma-Yi Theater Company, MUD/BONE, Naked Angels, New Dance Group Arts Center, New Georges, New York Theatre Workshop, Partial Comfort Productions, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Polybe + Seats, Pregones Theater, Queens Theatre in the Park, RACCA’s Seaport Salon, Rebel Theater Company Inc., Rising Phoenix Repertory, Robot Vs. Dinosaur, Salt Theater, scenedowntown, SITI Company, SLANT Theatre Project, TADA! Youth Theater, Temporary Theatre Company, The 52nd Street Project, The Brick Theater Inc, The Civilians, The Classical Theatre of Harlem, The Faux-Real Theatre Company, The Foundry Theatre, The H.A.D.L.E.Y. Players, The New Group, The New York Neo-Futurists, The Public Theater, The Tank, The TEAM, Universes, Untitled Theater Company #61, viBe Theater Experience, and Vortex Theater Company.

Each week, one of these companies will produce seven plays in the cycle in either traditional theater spaces or site-specific locations. The plays may be presented as staged readings or full productions. Participants will be invited to share their work in First Sundays, a free performance series at The Public Theater that will showcase the previous month’s presentations on the first Sunday of each month. In addition, during the month of July only, each week of that month’s plays will be performed by up to five theaters. All July participants will be invited to perform in the First Sundays series.
