60th Annual Tony Awards, Studio 60, et al. Get WGA Nominations

The 60th Annual Tony Awards broadcast is among the nominees for the 2007 Writers Guild of America Awards, which were announced today. The awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles and New York on February 11.

The Tonys are competing in the Comedy/Variety Specials category opposite PBS’ The National Memorial Day Concert and the HBO special Assume the Position with Mr. Wuhl, written by Robert Wuhl, Allen Stephen, and Rebecca Reynolds.

Playwright Aaron Sorkin received nominations for both the pilot of his series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and for the series itself, which features such stage veterans as Bradley Whitford, Amanda Peet, Steven Weber, and Sarah Paulson. Among the other notable nominees are Arthur Gelb, Barbara Gelb, and Ric Burns for the PBS documentary Eugene O’Neill and magician/comedians Penn and Teller for the HBO series Penn & Teller: Bullshit.
