59E59 Theaters has announced the roster of shows for the spring 2012 season.

Evolution, written and performed by Patricia Buckley, directed by Michele Chivu will run from April 26-May 20. Scientific fact and family history collide in this contemporary tale of a woman’s extraordinary transformation and her family’s absurd and tragic attempts to prevent it.

The next show is Take What is Yours, with a script by Erica Fae & Jill A. Samuels, directed by Jill A. Samuels (May 3-27). Take What is Yours is the little-known true story of how women fought for the right to vote in 1917, composed in the words of Alice Paul and documents of the time.

Next, 59E59 will present Travelers: The Wandering Scholar & Savitri, a double bill of operas by Gustav Holst, directed by Philip Shneidman (May 10-13). The first opera is a comedy, while the second is a moving tale of pure love and devotion.

Writopia Lab’s Worldwide Plays Festival (May 15-20) brings 40 imaginative, hilarious, insightful, action-packed, poignant, and provocative short plays by award-winning young playwrights, ages 8 – 18.

Here I Go (May 22 – June 3) is written by David Todd, directed by Luke Leonard, and hitches the emotional gamut of classic country music with a romanticized depiction of Lynette, a cowgirl in her 60s preparing to commit suicide.

Murder in the First, written by Dan Gordon, and directed by Michael Parva, will run May 25 – July 1. Inspired by a compelling true story, Murder in the First is a gripping drama about the case that ultimately led to the closing of Alcatraz, the most notorious correctional institution in U.S. history.

Tiny Dynamite, written by Abi Morgan, directed by Matt Torney (June 7- July 1) is about childhood friends Lucien and Anthony escaping for a summer in the country. When the dazzling Madeline explodes into their lives, she tears open old wounds, awakening bittersweet secrets of friendship and love.
