Bertie Carvel to Play Miss Trunchbull in Broadway’s Matilda the Musical

Bertie Carvel will reprise his role as Miss Trunchbull in the upcoming Broadway production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, which begins previews on March 4 in advance of an April 11 opening at the Shubert Theatre. The production will be directed by Matthew Warchus.

Featuring a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the show tells the story of a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. Additional casting will be announced in the future.

The production has sets and costumes by Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, and sound by Simon Baker.

Carvel won the prestigious Olivier Award for his performance as Miss Trunchbull in the show’s London production, and received an Olivier nomination for his performance in Rob Ashford’s London production of Parade. His additional stage credits include The Pride, Rope, and Coram Boy.
