Sarah Ruhl’s critically acclaimed play Eurydice will close out the Second Stage Theatre’s current season, with performances scheduled to begin on May 29. The production, which will open on June 12, will be directed by Les Waters, who previously directed the play at both Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2004 and Yale Repertory Theatre earlier this fall. John Caraffa will provide the show’s musical staging.

No casting has been announced. The show’s creative team will feature Scott Bradley (sets), Meg Neville (costumes), Russell H. Champa (lighting), and Bray Poor (sound).
Waters’ New York directing credits include Big Love, for which he won an Obie Award, Hot ‘n Throbbing, and Savannah Bay.

The play reimagines the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through the eyes of its heroine, who tragically dies on her wedding day and then journeys to the underworld to be reunited with her father. Ruhl’s other plays include The Clean House, which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and Passion Play. She is a recipient of a 2006 MacArthur Foundation grant.
