Matthew James Thomas, who stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark at the Foxwoods Theatre, posed with Lt. Col. Emmett “Lee” Wingfield III of the 621 Contingency Response Wing and his family, the latest individual to be honored as part of the musical’s “Everyday Heroes” initiative on Saturday, July 21.

Lt. Col. Wingfield has been on active duty in the Air Force for 18 years. His family made this special trip to New York for his son’s 10th birthday. The 621 Contingency Response Wing is responsible for training and deploying personnel to quickly open airfields in remote locations and extend Air Mobility Command’s ability to deploy people and equipment around the globe.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is inspired by over 40 years of Marvel comic books. It follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and must learn that with great powers comes great responsibility.

The show features music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, direction by Philip William McKinley, original direction by Julie Taymor, and a book co-written by Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
