Woody Allen will write the book for a new musical adaptation of his 1994 crime-comedy film, Bullets Over Broadway, which aims to arrive on Broadway in 2013.

Bullets Over Broadway tells the story of an aspiring young playwright newly arrived on Broadway in 1920’s New York who is forced to cast a mobster’s talentless girlfriend in his latest drama in order to get it produced.

The musical will utilize existing music of the period. The show is being produced by Julian Schlossberg and Letty Aronson, with full creative team, dates, theater and casting to be announced.

Allen was most recently represented on Broadway for his contribution to Relatively Speaking earlier this season. His other plays include From A to Z, Don’t Drink the Water, Play It Again, Sam, The Floating Lightbulb, Writer’s Block, and A Second Hand Memoir. He is an Oscar nominee this year for Midnight in Paris, and won Academy Awards for both writing and directing Annie Hall, and for writing Hannah and Her Sisters.
