Hugh Jackman Will Return to Broadway in New Jez Butterworth Drama, The River

Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway in early 2015 to star in the New York mounting of Jez Butterworth's new play, The River. The news was first reported by The New York Post and later confirmed by Jackman himself on the social networking site Twitter.
The River premiered at London's Royal Court Theatre in 2012, under the direction of Butterworth's frequent collaborator, Ian Rickson. Rickson will reprise his work on the three-character, 80-minute drama for the Broadway production.
Jackman stars as an unnamed man who arrives at a lakeside cabin with his new girlfriend and tries to persuade her to go fishing. Things take a dark turn when the woman suddenly goes missing, and just as suddenly reappears. But things aren't always what they seem.
Rickson and Butterworth last collaborated on the Broadway production of Butterworth's Jerusalem. Butterworth is also the author of the plays Mojo and Parlour Song, among others. Jackman last appeared on Broadway in a self-titled musical revue, as well as in A Steady Rain and The Boy From Oz, for which he won a Tony.
Sonia Friedman Productions and the Royal Court will produce the Broadway mounting of The River.
