Tyne Daly, Audra McDonald, et al. Set to Perform at McCarter Theatre

Four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will perform at the McCarter Theatre on Thursday, October 6, while Emmy and Tony Award winner Tyne Daly will present her celebrated cabaret act on Saturday, October 22.

Additional programming for the McCarter’s fall and winter season will include SF Jazz Collective performing the music of Stevie Wonder (October 5), Mary Chapin Carpenter (October 8), Anthony Bourdain (October 24), violinist Christian Tetzlaff and pianist Lars Vogt (October 25), pianist Alfred Brendel (November 1), Charles Ross in One-Man Star Wars Trilogy (November 8), Bela Fleck and the Original Flecktones with Howard Levy (November 9), Yamato: Japanese Taiko Drum Ensemble (November 10), folk icon Joan Baez (November 11), and Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro (December 19).

As previously reported, the McCarter’s 2011-2012 Theater Season will begin with Tony Award winner John Doyle’s production of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s Ten Cents a Dance (September 9-October 9), a co-production with Williamstown Theatre Festival, that will feature the cast doubling as the orchestra.

The season will continue with Marina Carr’s world premiere of Phaedra Backwards (October 18-November 6), directed by Emily Mann; the holiday favorite, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (December 4-24); Danai Gurira’s new play, The Convert (January 13-February 12), also directed by Mann; Tom Stoppard’s classic comedy Travesties (March 13-April 1), directed by Sam Buntrock; and John Guare’s Are You There, McPhee? (May 4-June 3).

In addition, New York’s Elevator Repair Service will present four performances of its critically acclaimed hit, GATZ, a landmark marathon word-for-word dramatization of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, December 15-18.
