Liz Callaway, Michael Rose, Stephen Schwartz Set for Paper Mill Gala; Lynn Redgrave Among Honorees

Liz Callaway and Michael Rose will join composer Stephen Schwartz for Paper Mill Playhouse’s upcoming gala, entitled Reaching for the Stars – Songs from Broadway and the Movies, to be presented at the Hilton Short Hills on Thursday, May 12.

The program will feature songs from Schwartz’s Hollywood movies and Broadway shows. There will also be a special performance by Paper Mill Playhouse Theatre School students. The reception and silent auction begin at 6:00pm followed by dinner and entertainment featuring the Eddie Bruce Band.

Lynn Redgrave will receive Paper Mill’s Frank Carrington Excellence in the Arts Award at the gala, with other honorees including Governor Brendan T. Byrne, Governor Thomas H. Kean, Adelaide Zagoren, and J.P. Morgan.

Schwartz has contributed music and/or lyrics to the stage shows Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, The Baker’s Wife, Working, Rags, Children of Eden and Wicked. For films, he collaborated with Alan Menken on the songs for Disney’s Enchanted as well as the animated features Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame and wrote the songs for the DreamWorks animated feature The Prince of Egypt. His first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon, premiered with Opera Santa Barbara in the fall of 2009.
