In Rehearsal: Oliver! at the Paper Mill Playhouse

A sneak peek at a new revival of Lionel Bart’s classic musical.

New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse recently held an open rehearsal for its upcoming production of Oliver!, Lionel Bart's musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel Oliver Twist. Directed by Mark S. Hoebee, the principal company includes David Garrison as Fagin, Betsy Morgan as Nancy, John Treacy Egan as Mr. Bumble, Jose Llana as Bill Sikes, David Hess as Mr. Brownlow, Ethan Haberfield as the Artful Dodger, and Tyler Moran in the title role.

The cast also includes Kristen Smith Davis (Bet), Michael Di Liberto (Mr. Sowerberry), Dierdre Friel (Mrs. Sowerberry), Juliance Godfey (Charlotte), Barbara Marineau (Mrs. Bedwin), Jeremy Morse (Noah), and Jessica Sheridan (Widow Corney). Rounding out the ensemble are Adrian Arrieta, Kate Bailey, Casey Beidel, Monica Bradley, Stephen Mitchell Brown, Casey Erin Clark, Will Flamm, Kyle Garvin, Matthew Hooper, Devin Johnson, Mary Claire King, Hunter Kovacs, Jimmy Larkin, George Merrick, Sarah M. O'Connor, Patrick O'Neill, P.J. Palmer, Jason Pintar, Jeff Sullivan, Bronwyn Tarboton, Joseph Torello, and Joseph C. Townsend.

The production also features 16 "workhouse boys" — local children from New Jersey, selected from a pool of over 200 who attended an open-call audition: Bobby Axelrod, Luke Berninger, Jake Cedar, James Freedson-Jackson, Chance Friedman, Lucas Imhoff, Jeffrey Kishinevskiy, Colton Maurer, Tyler Pelton, Jake Walsh, Arthur Wawrzyniak, and twin brothers Lee and Ryan Rosenthal.

The creative team includes costume design by Amanda Seymour, lighting design by F. Mitchell Dana, set design by Mark Morton, set coordination by Timothy R. Mackabee, sound design by Randy Hansen, hair and wig design by Leah J. Loukas, fight choreography by Michael Rossmy, and dialect coaching by Shane Ann Younts.

Performances begin November 21 in advance of a December 1 opening, and will run through December 29.
