Evan Parke and Ben Vereen to Star in Will Power’s Fetch Clay, Make Man at McCarter Theater

Evan Parke will play Muhammad Ali and Ben Vereen will play Ali’s friend Stepin Fetchit in the McCarter Theatre Center‘s production of Will Power’s Fetch Clay, Make Man. Des McAnuff will direct the production, which will run January 8 – February 14.

Set in the mid-1960s as Ali, formerly Cassius Clay, began cementing his heavyweight champion status, the play centers on the young boxer’s friendship with Fetchit, the stage name of the actor Lincoln Perry. The cast also includes Richard Masur, John Earl Jelks, and Sonequa Martin.

The design team will include Riccardo Hernandez (set), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Tony Award winner Howell Binkley (lighting), Darron L West (soundscape), and Peter Nigrini (projections).
