World Premieres by Steve Martin and Meghan Kennedy Set for Long Wharf Theatre Season

The lineup will also feature a world premiere musical by David Shire and Adam Gopnik.

Long Wharf Theatre has announced the productions planned for its 52nd season, which will include three world-premiere productions, a contemporary comedy, and a classic.

Long Wharf Theatre will start its season with the world premiere of the newest play by Steve Martin (Bright Star), an absurdist comedy titled Meteor Shower (September 28-October 23). Gordon Edelstein will direct this coproduction with the Old Globe. The theater will then present Jerry Sterner's Other People's Money (November 23-December 18), a 1980s comedy set in the era just before corporate malfeasance became the norm.

Brian Dennehy and John Douglas Thompson will kick of 2017 in Gordon Edelstein's production of Samuel Beckett's Endgame (January 4-February 5), followed by the world premiere of Meghan Kennedy's poetic Napoli Brooklyn (February 15-March). Gordon Edelstein will be at the helm of this coproduction with Roundabout Theatre Company. Lydia Diamond's recent hit Smart People (March 15-April 9), a comedy about four intellectuals navigating the complicated waters of race and gender identity, will continue the season in the spring.

The season's final offering will be the world premiere of the new musical Table (May 3-May 28), featuring book and lyrics by Adam Gopnik and music by David Shire. The musical, a joyful show about a tiny family restaurant, will be directed by Gordon Edelstein.
