Drama Desk Award nominee Claybourne Elder will star in Kansas City Repertory Theatre's upcoming production of Sunday in the Park with George, running September 11-October 4. Eric Rosen, the theater's artistic leader and Elder's real-life husband, will direct.

Elder takes on the role of painter Georges Seurat, which he first played in an unrelated 2014 production at Signature Theatre in Virginia. He will act opposite Sara Jean Ford (A Little Night Music), who will play Dot.

Written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, Sunday in the Park With George was inspired by Georges Seurat's famous painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The first half of the musical, set in 1884, focuses on the creation of the painting and Seurat's relationship with a woman named Dot. In the second half, set approximately 100 years later, the focus is on Seurat's great grandson, George, an acclaimed but unhappy artist.

The production will partner with The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to be staged at the venue's Atkins Auditorium. For more information and tickets, click here.
