The Illusion Theater in Minneapolis will present a stage adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Jazz, July 23-26, as part of its Frresh Ink Series. The production will be directed by Marion McClinton with music and arrangements by Kathryn Bostic.

Morrison’s story is set in Harlem where Jazz was being invented and re-invented as African Americans were migrating up away from the injustices of the South. Things are looking up until a middle-aged waiter shoots his teenage lover and his wife attacks the corpse at her funeral in this passionate story of love and obsession.

The cast will feature K. Bryant, Christiana Clark, Shawn Hamilton, Tonia K. Jackson, Gavin Lawrence, Greta Oglesby, Sonja Parks, Samuel G. Roberson Jr., and Regina Williams.
