Pillsbury House Theatre and The Mount Curve Company have announced casting for Tarell Alvin McCraney’s In the Red and Brown Water, to run May 12 – June 5 in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theatre. Tony nominee Marion McClinton will direct the production.

The first in McCraney’s The Brother/Sister Plays trilogy, the piece centers on Oya, a charismatic high school track star, who hopes to use her speed as a ticket out of the Louisiana bayou, but fate intervenes when she makes a life-defining decision to defer an athletic scholarship in order to care for her ailing mother.

The company will feature Christiana Clark (Oya), Ansa Akyea (Shango), Nathan Barlow (The Egungun), Aimee K. Bryant (Shun), John Catron (O Li Roon), Celeste Jones (Nia), Gavin Lawrence (Elegba), Greta Oglesby (Aunt Elegua), Sonja Parks (Mama Moja) and James A. Williams (Ogun Size).

The creative team will include David Gallo (scenic design), Kalere A. Payton (costume design), Mike Wangen (lighting design), and C. Andrew Mayer (sound design).

In related news, Pillsbury House Theatre and The Mount Curve Company have announced plans to produce the other two plays in McCraney’s trilogy during the 2012 season.
