Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz will pen a Spanish language adaptation of Hamlet, Prince of Cuba, based upon Michael Donald Edwards’ English-language reworking of Shakespeare’s play, according to The Miami Herald. Asolo Repertory Theatre will present the play in both its main Sarasota theater (March 23-May 6) and at the new South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (May 17-20), with the cast giving performances in both languages.

Cruz replaces Eduardo Machado on the project, which is a Cuba-set version of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Cruz won the Pulitzer for Anna in the Tropics. His other plays include The Color of Desire, Beauty of the Father, and A Bicycle Country.
