Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill begins performances tonight at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Billie Holiday, played by Deidrie Henry, takes the stage at a small Philadelphia club in March 1959 for one of the last shows of her life in an intimate cabaret evening featuring live renditions of her most beloved classics, and a revealing glimpse into the troubled history of the woman behind the legend. Bill Fennelly directs.

Henry is joined by Abdul Hamid Royal as Jimmy Powers and Music Director. Additional onstage accompaniment provided by local musicians Chris King and Tyrone Wheeler.

The creative team includes scenic design by Michael Schweikardt, costume design by Raquel Barreto, lighting design by Paul Toben, sound design by Nick Kourtides, and music direction by Abdul Hamid Royal.

Performances run through January 29.
