Tom Bower has replaced the previously announced Tracy Letts in L.A. Theatre Works’ presentation of Sam Shepard’s darkly comic family drama, Buried Child, to run December 8-11 at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus. Peter Levin will direct.

As previously reported, Letts has replaced John Mahoney in Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of Penelope, with the run of that production conflicting with the dates of LATW’s Buried Child.

Bower’s credits include such films as Crazy Heart, Appaloosa, Die Hard 2 and HBO’s The Laramie Project.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play centers on Vince, who brings his girlfriend Shelly home to meet his family, resulting in a curious homecoming for the son nobody seems to remember.

The company will also feature the previously reported John Getz, Amy Madigan, Robert Parsons, Jeff Perry and Madeline Zima, along with Hale Appleman.
