Samantha Barks to Play Eponine in Les Miserables Film

Samantha Barks will play the role of Eponine in the forthcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables, according to published reports. The actress has previously played the part in the West End production of Les Miz, and also in the 25th anniversary concert of the musical at London’s 02 Arena.

As previously reported, the film’s confirmed cast includes Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, and Colm Wilkinson as the Bishop of Digne, as well as Frances Ruffelle who will appear in the “Lovely Ladies” sequence of the movie.

Academy Award winner Tom Hooper will direct the film, which will be released December 7, 2012. The screenplay will be written by playwright William Nicholson, based upon the Victor Hugo book and the stage musical adaptation. Cameron Mackintosh is producing the film, which will be utilizing the musical’s original score from Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Alain Boublil.
