Oscar Nominee Taraji Henson greeted the cast of the Fountain Theatre‘s production of Ifa Bayeza’s The Ballad of Emmett Till, which continues through May 30. Shirley Jo Finney has directed the production.

Part history, part mystery and part ghost story, Bayeza’s music-infused play examines the story of the 1955 murder of 14-year old Emmett Till, whose shocking death helped spark the nascent civil rights movement.

The company features Bernard K. Addison, Rico E. Anderson, Lorenz Arnell, Adenrele Ojo, and Karen Malina White. The creative team includes Scott Siedman (scenic design), Kathi O’Donohue (lighting design), Naila Aladdin-Sanders (costume design), and David B. Marling (sound design).

Henson received a 2008 Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Additional film credits include Baby Boy, Hustle and Flow, and I Can Do Bad All By Myself.
