Laurie Metcalf, Allison Janney, Pasek & Paul, and More Receive Oscar Nominations

Broadway favorites are up for Hollywood's biggest award.

A number of Broadway favorites topped the list of 2018 Oscar nominations, announced on Tuesday, January 23.

In supporting categories, nominees with theater ties include Allison Janney (I, Tonya), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird), Willem DaFoe (The Florida Project), Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water), Christopher Plummer (All the Money in the World), and Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

In leading categories, the nominees are Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name), Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq.), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), and Meryl Streep (The Post).

In creative categories, Aaron Sorkin received an Adapted Screenplay nomination for Molly's Game, with Greta Gerwig scoring Original Screenplay and Directing nods for Lady Bird, and Martin McDonagh receiving Original Screenplay and Best Picture nominations for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Dear Evan Hansen Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are nominated for the second year in a row for their song "This Is Me" from The Greatest Showman. Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are nominated for their song "Remember Me" from Coco.

Metcalf returns to Broadway this spring in Three Tall Women, with Washington taking the stage in The Iceman Cometh. Manville will be seen at Brooklyn Academy of Music in Long Day's Journey Into Night in May.
