Melissa Claire Egan, Peri Gilipin, Catherine Hicks, Sean Maher Set for Blank Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival

The Blank Theatre has announced initial casting for The 20th Annual Young Playwrights Festival, running May 31-June 24 at the Stella Adler Theater.

The festival showcases 12 plays by young adult playwrights from across the country. Week one (May 31-June 3) will feature Coffee Talk by Spencer Emerson Opal-Levine, directed by David Shine; The Grant Proposal by Nick Mecikalski, directed by James Kerwin); and Princess by Kate Herzlin, directed by April Webster.

The second week (June 7-10) will include The Index by Zachary Weaver, directed by Trevor Bishop; Scrapbook by Brendan Blaber, directed by J. Richey Nash; and The Art of Losing by Nicole Acton, directed by Loni Peristere.

Week three (June 14-17) features Dammit by David Agronin, directed by Matt Graber; Other People’s Organs by Paige Roth, directed by Ammenah Kaplan; and ARC by Elana Zeltser, directed by Barbara Bain.

The final week includes Bear in Mind by Emma Steinkellner, directed by Jeff Maynard; One Plus One is Four by Rachel Kaly, directed by Warren Davis; and The Cardioluthier by Dylan Zwickel, directed by Michael Matthews.


Participating performers will include Catherine Hicks, Laura Silverman, Mackenzie Phillips, Peri Gilpin, Josh Randall, Lenny Jacobson, Zach Roerig, Matthew Moy, Shanna Collins, Jill Larson, Daniel Hugh Kelly, Melissa Claire Egan , Dylan Sprayberry, Michael Grant, Angel Parker, Parvesh Cheena, Sprague Grayden, Sean Maher, Larry Poindexter, and Jack Laufer.
