Lifetime’s television movie remake of Steel Magnolias will air on October 7. The film is directed by Kenny Leon, and produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Queen Latifah will star as M’Lynn, and also executive produce the project, which will also feature Adepero Oduye (Annelle), Condola Rashad (Shelby), Phylicia Rashad (Clairee), Jill Scott (Truvy), and Alfre Woodard (Ouiser).

Sally Robinson is penning the adaptation, which is based upon the screenplay for the 1989 movie, which Robert Harling wrote, based upon his play of the same name. The work is set in present-day Louisiana, and charts the lives and friendship amongst a group of women as they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop.
