James Gandolfini, Diane Lane, Tim Robbins Set for HBO Films’ Cinema Verite

Stage and screen stars James Gandolfini and Tim Robbins will join Oscar nominee Diane Lane in HBO Films’ Cinema Verite, according to The Hollywood Reporter. David Seltzer has written the screenplay, with Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini set to direct.

The film takes a behind-the-scenes look at the groiundbreaking 1973 PBS documentary series, An American Family. Robbins and Lane will play parents Bill and Pat Loud, while Gandolfini will play documentary producer Craig Gilbert. Production is expected to begin this summer in Los Angeles.

Gandolfini received a Tony nomination for his Broadway debut in God of Carnage, and is probably best known for playing Tony Soprano on The Sopranos. Robbins is co-founder of the Los Angeles-based theater company The Actors Gang. Among his credits with the group is Embedded, a play which he wrote and directed. The actor won an Oscar for his performance in Mystic River and will appear in the upcoming Green Lantern movie.
