Ian Somerhalder, The Colbert Report and More Receive Genesis Awards

The Humane Society of the United States’ 26th Genesis Awards were presented at a gala ceremony on Saturday, March 24, at The Beverly Hilton. The awards, which honor the news and entertainment media for raising public awareness of animal issues, will be broadcast as a one-hour special on Animal Planet on May 5, with an encore presentation May 6.
Winners included theater veteran Ian Somerhalder, who won The Wyler Award, and Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, starring theater veteran Stephen Colbert, which took home the Sid Caesar Comedy Award.
Among the other winners were The Ellen Degeneres Show, Hawaii Five-O, and the film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
