Cotter Smith to Star in Dick Enberg’s McGuire at El Portal

Cotter Smith will star in the title role of Dick Enberg’s play, McGuire, about legendary Marquette basketball coach Al McGuire. The show will be presented on the El Portal Theatre’s Mainstage in North Hollywood, April 9-12. Heidi Mueller-Smith will direct.

In addition to his coaching, McGuire was also known as a sportscaster for NBC and CBS, where he teamed with Enberg and Billy Packer, prior to his death in 2001 of a blood disorder at the age of 72.

Smith’s New York theatre credits include An American Daughter on Broadway, Burn This, and How I Learned to Drive. His numerous television and film credits include Blood Feud, X2: X-Men United, and Brothers and Sisters.
