Christian Borle Unofficially Announced to Join the Cast of NBC's Peter Pan Live!
The Tony winner may not be donning his "black stache," but he very well may return to his ''Peter Pan'' roots.
Christian Borle, Tony Award winner and veteran on NBC's live musical telecasts, has been tentatively reported as the choice for Smee and Mr. Darling in the network's December broadcast of Peter Pan Live! Originally reported by Deadline, NBC has not yet confirmed the casting choice, but producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron tweeted messages, welcoming Borle to the cast, which currently is slated to feature Girls star Allison Williams in the title role and two-time Tony nominee Christopher Walken as Captain Hook.
Borle, who earned a Tony Award in 2012 for his featured performance as Black Stache in the Peter Pan prequel Peter and the Starcatcher, was featured in NBC's 2013 The Sound of Music Live! as Max Detweiler. He is also well known for his regular role on NBC's Broadway-inspired drama series Smash. The network's Peter Pan telecast will air on December 4.
Peter Pan features a book by J.M. Barrie, who wrote the stories on which the musical was based, as well as a score by Mark "Moose" Charlap and Carolyn Leigh, with additional songs by Jule Syne, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. The musical's original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins, opened in 1954, and won Tony Awards for its stars, Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard, with Joe E. Marks in the role of Smee.
