Bryan Cranston has been added to the cast of Adam Shankman’s movie version of the musical Rock of Ages, according to a report on Deadline.com. He will play the husband of an Anita Bryant-like advocate who wants to ban rock and roll, to be played, as previously announced, by Tony Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The movie will also star, as previously reported, Diego González Boneta as Drew; Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx; 30 Rock star and Broadway veteran Alec Baldwin as club owner Dennis; Paul Giamatti as the manager of the rock band headed by Jaxx; former Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough as Sherrie; Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige as Justice; and actor-comedian Russell Brand as Lonny.

The score includes the hit songs of iconic rockers Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and many more. The musical’s book is written by Chris D’Arenzio, who will also pen the screenplay with Michael Arndt and Alan Loeb.

Cranston’s other film and television work includes Breaking Bad, Little Miss Sunshine, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Malcolm in the Middle.
