Audra McDonald and Patti LuPone’s Mahagonny to Receive Radio Airings

The L.A. Opera’s production of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, starring Tony Award winners Audra McDonald and Patti LuPone and opera star Anthony Dean Griffey will air on L.A. radio station KUSC 91.5FM at 10:30am on Saturday, June 6 and begin airing on syndicated WFMT Radio Network on August 1.

The production was directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, with music direction by James Conlon. The show’s cast also featured Robert Wörle as Fatty the Bookkeeper, John Easterlin as Jack O’Brien, Mel Ulrich as Bank Account Bill, Donnie Ray Albert as Trinity Moses, Derek Taylor as Toby Higgins, and Steven Humes as Alaska Wolf Joe. It is available on DVD and CD, and won Grammy Awards for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording.

The stations will also air a number of other L.A. Opera productions in the coming months, including Il Trittico, The Fly, Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, The Birds, and Verdi’s Requiem.
