Anna Kendrick to Star in Film Adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years

Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick will play Cathy in the film adaptation of the Jason Robert Brown musical The Last Five Years, according to Deadline.com. The piece is being adapted and directed by Richard LaGravenese.
The Last Five Years premiered Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre in a production starring Sherie Rene Scott as Cathy and Norbert Leo Butz as Jamie that ran March 3-May 5, 2002. The musical’s structure has Cathy moving backwards in time and Jamie moving forward in time (meeting in the middle during their wedding) and gives their two different perspectives on the beginning and end of their relationship.
No word yet on who will play the role of Jamie.
Brown won Drama Desk Awards for his music and lyrics, and the show itself received Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics nominations for Outstanding Musical.
As previously reported, Brown will direct an Off-Broadway revival of The Last Five Years for Second Stage Theatre in Spring 2013.
