Amy Pietz to Join Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Jane Kaczmarek, and James Lecesne in Geffen’s In Mother Words

Amy Pietz will join Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Jane Kaczmarek, and James Lecesne in the West Coast premiere of In Mother Words, to play the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse, February 15-May 1, with an opening set for February 23. Lisa Peterson will direct. Pietz replaces the previously reported Mary Birdsong.

Conceived by Susan Rose and Joan Stein, the show is a collection of stories on the universal subject of motherhood. It features works by Leslie Ayvazian, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Beth Henley, Lameece Issaq, Claire LaZebnik, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Lisa Ramirez, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Rice, Annie Weisman, and Cheryl L. West.

The creative team will include Rachel Hauck (set), David Woolard (costumes), Christopher Kuhl (lighting), Jill DuBoff (sound), Jan Hartley (projections), and Emily Hubbley (animations).

Ekulona and Lecesne will star in the entire three month run of the show. Kaczmarek and Pietz will appear in the first part of the run, through March 15. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

Pietz received Ovation Award nominations for her performances in Company at Reprise! And Lobby Hero at the Odyssey Theatre. Her other stage credits include Love, Loss and What I Wore at the Geffen Playhouse, A Dead Man’s Apartment at The Met, Fiorello! at Reprise!, The Boswell Sisters at The Old Globe, A View From the Bridge and You Can’t Take It With You at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, as well as numerous appearances with LATW. She is perhaps best known for her work in Caroline in the City, for which she was nominated for a SAG Award.
