Alan Cumming, Nicole Kidman, Jane Lynch, Julianna Margulies, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Mary-Louise Parker, et al. Among IPA Satellite Award Nominees

The nominations for International Press Academy’s Satellite Awards have been announced. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on Sunday, December 19 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The awards recognize excellence in both film and television. In the latter category, two series, FOX’s Glee and CBS’ The Good Wife have each received five nominations. Glee is one of the contenders for the best Television Series prize. Other nominations have gone to Matthew Morrison for Actor in a Series, Comedy or Drama and Lea Michele for Best Actress in a Series, Comedy or Musical as well as Jane Lynch (Actress in a Supporting Role) and Chris Colfer (Actor in a Supporting Role).

The nominations for The Good Wife include one for best Television Series, Drama, as well as ones for Julianna Margulies for Best Actress in a Series, Drama and Josh Charles, Best Actor in a Series, Drama as well as Alan Cumming (Actor in a Supporting Role) and Archie Panjabi (Actress in a Supporting Role).

Other stage performers who have been nominated for television work include Jane Adams, Alec Baldwin, Ty Burrell, Toni Collette, Benedict Cumberbatch, Claire Danes, Hope Davis, Judi Dench, Edie Falco, Sharon Gless, Michael C. Hall, Jon Hamm, Neil Patrick Harris, Laura Linney, Ian McShane, Elisabeth Moss, Al Pacino, Anna Paquin, Mary-Louise Parker, Katey Sagal, Martin Short, David Strathairn, David Suchet, and Brenda Vaccaro.

In film nominations, The Social Network has received the third most nominations, a total of seven including one for best Motion Picture, Drama. Other nominations includes ones for Jesse Eisenberg in the Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama category and Andrew Garfield (Actor in a Supporting Role), as well as director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.


The film version of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole has received two nominations, including one for Nicole Kidman (Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama) and one for Dianne Wiest (Actress in a Supporting Role).

Stage veteran Mary-Louise Parker has picked up a pair of nominations. For her work on the film Red she has been nominated in the Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical category, and for her work on Showtime’s Weeds, she has received a nomination for Actress in a Series, Drama.

Among the other theater veterans who have been nominated in Satellite Award film categories are Annette Bening, Danny Boyle, Jez Butterworth, Anne-Marie Duff, Colin Firth, Anne Hathaway, Sally Hawkins, Catherine Keener, John Malkovich, Conor McPherson, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Sean Penn, Rosamund Pike, Natalie Portman, A.R. Rahman, Vanessa Redgrave, John C. Reilly, Geoffrey Rush, Kristin Scott Thomas, Marisa Tomei, and Michelle Williams.

The film Inception has received the most nominations, a total of 11 and is followed by 127 Hours, which has received nine. Both are nominated in the Best Film, Drama category alongside Social Network, along with Animal Kingdom, Blue Valentine, Get Low, The Ghost Writer, The King’s Speech, The Town and Winter’s Bone.
