The Former Towns of Gilmore Girls and Growing Pains Become the Christmas Story Live! Set

Take a behind-the-scenes look at an iconic town square, repurposed for Fox’s new live musical event.

Ever wondered what it's like to be on the set of a live television musical? On December 6, TheaterMania had the opportunity to visit the Warner Bros. Studios back lot, where Fox's A Christmas Story Live! will air on December 17.

If the area looks familiar, that's because it is: The Parker family of A Christmas Story live in a house that once belonged to the Seavers of Growing Pains, while the rest of the show takes place in and around the town squares shared by Gilmore Girls and Pretty Little Liars. Check out TheaterMania's photos in the gallery below.

The three-hour live television event is inspired by the holiday classic feature A Christmas Story and Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Joseph Robinette's Tony Award-nominated Broadway production A Christmas Story: The Musical. Set to air on December 17, it is directed and executive-produced by Scott Ellis. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will executive-produce, with Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary serving as coexecutive producers and writers.

The company includes Andy Walken as Ralphie, Maya Rudolph as Ralphie's mother, Matthew Broderick as the narrator, Jane Krakowski as Miss Shields, Ana Gasteyer as Mrs. Schwartz, Chris Diamantopoulos as the Old Man, Ken Jeong as both a Christmas tree salesman and a restaurant owner, and David Alan Grier as Santa Claus. The band PrettyMuch will appear as the Hohman, Indiana, carolers.
