Charles Edwards, Jonathan Hyde to Star in U.K. Tour of The King’s Speech

Charles Edwards and Jonathan Hyde will star in the U.K. tour of David Seidler’s The King’s Speech, which will launch with an engagement at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, beginning performances February 1. Adrian Noble will direct the production, which will be designed by Anthony Ward and subsequently be seen in Nottingham, Bath, Brighton, Richmond and Newcastle.

Seidler’s play centers on how King George VI conquered his debilitating stammer with the help of maverick speech therapist Lionel Logue and was the inspiration for his Academy Award-winning screenplay for the award-winning film of the same name.

Edwards starred in The 39 Steps in the West End and on Broadway. Among his other recent stage credits are Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night. His film and television credits include An Ideal Husband, Monarch of the Glen, Mansfield Park, Murder Rooms: The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes and The Shell Seekers.

Hyde’s theater credits include Peter Pan, Rattigan’s Nijinsky, Jumpers, and Antigone, as well as King Lear and The Seagull, which toured internationally. Among his film credits are The Contract, The Mummy, Titanic, Jumanji, and Richie Rich.
