Rosaleen Linehan, Michael Sheen, Patrick Stewart, et al. Set for Young Vic’s 2011-2012 Season

Patrick Stewart will reprise his portrayal of William Shakespeare in Edward Bond’s Bingo, to run February 16 – March 31 at the Young Vic in London, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Angus Jackson will once again direct the production, which was seen last year at the Chichester Festival.

Bingo depicts Shakespeare in the last days of his life — aging, facing poverty and lacking creative energy, until his poetry is suddenly once again unleashed by the catastrophic circumstances he faces.

In addition to this casting news, the company has announced its complete 2011-2012 season, which will include David Harrower’s new version of Nikolai Gogol’s black comedy The Government Inspector (June 3 – July 9), directed by Richard Jones and starring Julian Barratt and Doon Mackichan, as well as Martin McDonagh’s look at a mother and daughter’s unhappy relationship, The Beauty Queen of Leenane (July 20 – September 3), which will be directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins and star Rosaleen Linehan. Also on the theater’s schedule is John Fulljames’ award-winning production of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene (September 15 – October 1), which features an 80-member company and focuses on life over the course of two days in a 1940s New York tenement.

In addition, the company has announced dates for its previously reported staging of Hamlet, running November 9 – January 21. Michael Sheen will star in the production, to be directed by Ian Rickson.
