Tony Christie, Ben James-Ellis to Join West End’s Dreamcoats and Petticoats

Pop legend Tony Christie and Any Dream Will Do alum Ben James-Ellis will join the West End company of Dreamboats and Petticoats, playing at the Playhouse Theatre, on July 5, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. The musical, directed by Bob Tomson, is booking through November 27.

Christie might be best remembered for his hit “Amarillo (Is This the Way to).” Subsequent to Any Dream Will Do, James-Ellis has been seen in Hairspray in the West End and The Hostage at the Southwark Playhouse.

Dreamboats and Petticoats, with book by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, takes inspiration from the compilation album series of the same name and focuses on two young musicians who are competing to win the hearts of their adoring female fans. Among the songs included in the show are: “Let’s Dance”, “To Know Him Is to Love Him”, “Shaking All Over”, “Bobby’s Girl”, “Three Steps to Heaven”, “Little Town Flirt”, “Only Sixteen”, “Runaround Sue”, “Happy Birthday Sweet 16”, “Let It Be Me”, “Great Pretender”, “C’mon Everybody,” and “Let’s Twist Again”.

The creative team includes Carole Todd (choreography), Sean Cavanagh (production design), Mark Howett (lighting design), and Ben Harrison (sound design).
