The King and I, Starring Ken Watanabe and Kelli O'Hara, Is Coming to Cinemas

It was announced today that the Tony-winning Lincoln Center Theater revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, now running in London's West End, will be released in cinemas around the world this fall via Trafalgar Releasing. The King and I: From the Palladium will be filmed onstage at the London Palladium and will open in cinemas globally on November 29 with an encore presentation exclusively in the United States on December 4. Tickets will go on sale August 31.

Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, the production first opened on Broadway in 2015 for a 16-month run at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater, followed by a US tour. The show then transferred to the London Palladium this past June, with Tony winner Kelli O'Hara (Anna Leonowens), Tony and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (King of Siam), and Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles (Lady Thiang) reprising their Broadway performances. The London cast also features Takao Osawa as the Kralahome, Dean John-Wilson as Lun Tha, and Na-Young Jeon as Tuptim.

Set in 1860s Bangkok, The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
