Nicholas Hytner will step down from his role as Director of London's National Theatre at the end of March 2015, the organization has announced.

Since succeeding Trevor Nunn as director in 2003, Hytner has been responsible for hundreds of productions including The History Boys, War Horse, and One Man, Two Guvnors, all of which have subsequently played in New York City. Another achievement of his tenure as director includes the launch of the popular NT Live series, which broadcasts the National's productions in cinemas across the world. "It's been a joy and a privilege to lead the National Theatre for ten years and I'm looking forward to the next two," Hytner said in a statement.

Additionally, the organization has announced that Nick Starr will leave his post as Executive Director during the 2014 calendar year. "There's a genius to this place and it will be a wrench to leave it," Starr said in a statement. "But I want to make room for the next generation, and it's time for me to plough new furrows."

A succession committee will begin the search for a new director in the coming weeks and is expected to announce a successor for Hytner's position in the fall of this year. A new executive director will be appointed after that has taken place.
