Michael Crawford, Danielle Hope, Hannah Waddingham, et al. to Star in West End Production of Wizard of Oz

Principal casting has been announced for the new musical production of the The Wizard of Oz. Jeremy Sams will direct the production, which will feature both music from the 1939 film and new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

The show will begin previews at the London Palladium in the West End on February 7, 2011, with an opening set for March 1. The production will be designed by Robert Jones and choreographed by Arlene Phillips.

As previously reported, Danielle Hope, the winner of the reality TV competition, Over the Rainbow, will play the role of Dorothy, and Sophie Evans, the runner up on the show, will play the role on Tuesday’s and during Hope’s holidays. Tony Award winner Michael Crawford will play the Wizard.

In addition, the cast will include Hannah Waddingham (Wicked Witch of the West), Paul Keating (Scarecrow), Edward Baker-Duly (Tin Man), David Ganly (Scarecrow), and Emily Tierney (Glinda).
