London’s Gate Theatre Announces 2009 Season

The Gate Theatre has announced selections for its 30th anniversary season in 2009, which collectively will be called Generation Gate.

The season will begin with the UK premiere of Juan Mayorga’s Nocturnal (April 16-May 16), in a new translation by David Johnston, directed by Lyndsey Turner. The piece explores the complex nature of friendship, stripping away to reveal the layers of polite behavior to reveal the power struggles beneath human relationships.

Next up will be the world premiere of Medea/Medea (June 18-July 18), written and directed by Dylan Tighe, with design by Sarah Bacon. This new version of Euripides’ tragedy blends live performance with pre recorded image as the show probes the nature of translation, the concept of theatre and the place of myth in modern society.

The Gate will also present Press at the Sadler’s Wells, May 28-30. Created and performed by Pierre Rigal, with lighting and set design by Frederic Stoll amd sound by Nihil Bordurus, French choreographer and performer Pierre Rigal explores how our personal space is confined by the pressures of modern life.
