Jim Brochu & Steve Schalchlin’s The Last Session to Receive UK Premiere

CliMar Productions will present the UK premiere of The Last Session, featuring music and lyrics by Steve Schalchlin, with book by Jim Brochu and additional lyrics by John Bettis and Marie Cain. Guy Retallack will direct the production, which will play the Tristan Bates Theatre, September 25-October 27.

Set in a recording studio in 1996, singer/songwriter, Gideon is tired of being ill and ready to give up. To show his undying love to his partner, he plans to record a musical letter of farewell. For this last session, he reunites with some old friends and is joined by an unexpected visitor, who shares Gideon’s Christian faith and for whom Gideon’s sexuality changes everything.

The musical is partly based on composer Schalchlin’s own experiences living with AIDS.

Musical direction will be by Tom Turner, with lighting by Richard Williamson.
