James Corden will play the title role in Richard Bean’s new version of Carlo Goldoni’s A Servant to Two Masters, scheduled to bow in May in the Lyttleton Theatre at the National Theatre, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Nicholas Hytner will direct the production.

The play centers on Trffualdino (Corden), who suddenly finds himself with two new serving jobs on the same day. However, his efforts to keep the two masters apart results in much deception, disguise, and unrequited love.

Corden may be best known from his portrayal of Timms in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, which Hytner also directed. Corden not only originated the role in London, he played it on Broadway and in the film version. Among his other screen credits include How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Telstar, Lesbian Vampire Killers and Mike Leigh’s All of Nothing. In addition, he is co-writer and star of televisions’ Gavin and Stacey.
