Performances of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Passion playing at the Donmar Warehouse have been cancelled through Wednesday, October 6, according to published reports. The production is scheduled to run through November 27.

At the Saturday, October 2 matinee, actor David Birrell, who plays Colonel Ricci, was accidentally shot in an on-stage duel, resulting in an eye injury and hospitalization.
The company also stars David Thaxton (Giorgio), Fosca (Elena Roger), and Clara (Scarlett Strallen).

According to The New York Times, the theater has released the following statement: “Following initial inquiries into the accident at the theater on Saturday, it appears that during the duel scene, David Birrell’s licensed replica stage gun misfired causing some debris to enter his eye. We are, as a matter of priority, carrying out further investigations into the incident. David is recovering well in hospital and is in good spirits.”
