Dominic Cooke, Howard Davies, Jonathan Kent, Zoe Wanamaker et al. Set for National Theatre’s Season

The National Theatre has announced initial plans for 2011 programming, which will include a production of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, directed by Dominic Cooke, to be offered in November.

The National will also produce a revival of Henrik Ibsen’s Emperor and Galilean, about the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate and his wrestling with Christianity, to be directed by Jonathan Kent, as well as a new production of Arnold Wesker’s The Kitchen, directed by Bijan Sheibani. Additionally, the theater will continue its relationships with the Southbank Sinfonia orchestra to present St. Matthew’s Passion, Jonathan Miller’s dramatization of JS Bach’s famous piece.

Also on the company’s schedule for the early part of 2011 will be Howard Davies’ previously announced production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, starring Zoe Wanamaker, and Nicholas Hytner’s staging of Richard Bean’s new version of Carlo Goldoni’s A Servant to Two Masters, which, as previously reported will star James Corden.
